Who We Are
Dr. Stan Pylant, Director of Music, was born at Barksdale Air Force Base just outside Shreveport, Louisiana and was reared in Lafayette, Louisiana. Dr. Pylant graduated from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette School of Music in Voice. Dr. Pylant then earned a Master's degree (voice and conducting) from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Fort Worth, Texas) and served churches in Louisiana, Texas, Georgia and Oklahoma. It was in Oklahoma that he met his wife, Kirsten. The were married in 1991 and have two children, Brianna and Nathan, who are both students at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. Prior to joining the staff of Christ Church, Stan served at First Baptist Church of Augusta for twenty-two years. While there, he completed work on the Doctor of Worship Studies, graduating from the Institute of Worship Studies (Jacksonville, Florida.) Stan joined the ministry of Christ Church, Presbyterian in July of 2015. In addition, Dr. Pylant serves as the Director of the Augusta Youth Chorale, an auditioned choir for teen singers across the CSRA (http://www.augustayouthchorale.org); a member of the Century Men, an auditioned male chorus of ministers of music from around the U.S.; a member of the Sons of Jubal, a male chorus of ministers of music in Georgia, as well as a violist with Symphony Orchestra Augusta.
Chris Nabholz, Interim Director of Student Ministry, is a graduate of Augusta University with a degree in Health and Physical Education. During their freshman year of college, Chris met his future wife Audrey and they married in December 2015 at Christ Church. He teaches PE at the elementary level in Richmond County and has experience as a middle school and high school coach for softball and baseball as well as a Fellowship of Christian Athletes leader. Chris has been an active member of Christ Church for over 10 years and during that time has been an active participant as a member and leader in the student ministry. Chris and Audrey enjoy having the opportunity to work with parents and students by providing community, support, and encouragement to develop spiritual growth within students and their families at Christ Church.
Laura Doss, Organist, grew up in Aiken and began her organ studies there with Ken Courtney at First Presbyterian Church. She earned her bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of South Carolina at Aiken during which time she studied organ with Keith Shafer at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Augusta. Laura served as the organist at First Presbyterian Church in Augusta for several years and at Christ Church for seven years before moving out of town. Laura is married to Adam, a dentist, and they have ten children: Joshua, Abigail, Esther, Hannah, Noah, Joseph, Peter, James, Mary Grace, and Sarah Claire. Laura enjoys homeschooling her children, exercising, sewing, cooking, and doing anything with her family.
Scott Doss, Audio/Visual Director, was born into an Air Force family in Exeter, New Hampshire. His formative years were spent in New Hampshire, Morocco, Colorado and Arizona. The family settled in upstate South Carolina in 1967 where Scott attended Clemson University earning a B.A. in English with a Minor in Music. Early in 1981, he began both his new life as a Christian and his career in radio. He and his wife, Margaret, met while attending Covenant Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Easley, South Carolina. They were married in 1985 and have two children and one grandchild. In 1999, Scott left radio and opened his own voice talent, copy writing and audio production company, known today as Aerie Voices. At the same time, he became the Audio/Visual Director at First Presbyterian Church of Augusta, where he served for 5 years. In 2004, he and his family became Charter Members of Christ Church, Presbyterian and Scott joined the church staff as it's Audio/Visual Director. Today, he continues in that capacity and also serves as the church's Digital Media Director.
Shirley McBride, Secretary/Bookkeeper, is a native of South Carolina. She has married her husband, Chris, in 1995 and they have a beautiful daughter, Kristen . Shirley has enjoyed working in the administrative support role for several reputable organizations, left the work force for the delightful role of motherhood, and comes to Christ Church, Presbyterian as Secretary/Bookkeeper. Shirley has also served God through supporting her home church, Sweetwater Baptist, in multiple volunteer positions. She was used of God as a missionary to Romania in 2007, has directed the Children’s Medical Center Ministry of the Augusta Health University since 2001, and has been the adult ladies ‘Joy’ Sunday school class teacher since 2006.
